Weatherizing a home can lower utility bills while also creating a safer and more comfortable home in which to live. The weatherization process helps the home stay cooler in the summer and warmer during the winter months.

Proven Results:
The Nebraska Energy Office performs analysis of actual gas and electric usage in homes before and after weatherization. In the latest analysis, the homes weatherized by Community Action of Lancaster and Sanders counties saw savings of 20.94% in natural gas and 8.92% in electric. According to a 2015 study conducted by UNO, the median annual cost for electric and heating fuel in the state of Nebraska is $1,864.31. If your household is spending the median amount per month, you could save up to $500 per year.

The money saved from getting a home weatherized can help the people we serve become more financially stable and self-reliant.

Am I Eligible?

Households that have received LIHEAP heating assistance, Supplemental Security Income, or Aid to Dependent Children within the last 12 month are automatically eligible for the program. If this doesn't apply to you, the total households income must fall below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Properties can only be weatherized once through Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties unless they have been weatherized prior to October 1, 1994 in which case they can be re-weatherized. Once the application is approved, the house will receive an inspection to ensure it is structurally sound, free of hazards and ready for weatherization.

Weatherization Services offered through Community Action Partnership MAY include:
• Insulation
• Furnace tune-ups or replacements (if deemed necessary during inspection)
• Water heater replacement (if deemed necessary during inspection)
• Weather-stripping and caulking
• Door and/or window repair/replacement
• Exterior ventilation of exhaust fans
• Installation of CFL bulbs, carbon monoxide detectors, and low-flow

How Do I Apply?

A complete application including income verification must be submitted for consideration. Once approved, a weatherization inspector will visit the home to begin the process of determining which energy saving resources can be funded. Please return the completed application to: Community Action - Weatherization Program 210 'O' Street Lincoln, NE 68508.
